What Types of Questions Are Included?
Two, and both are multiple choice: items with one correct option, and items where you must pick each option that fits the condition and no others. There is no third format on NWExam, and where an item is scored as one unit it earns full marks or none.
That is a narrower list than the paper you are preparing for, and saying so is more useful than implying otherwise. A modern networking certification exam will also ask you to put a process in order or map one column onto another, and on several tracks to configure a device and be marked on what you left behind. NWExam reproduces the reasoning those items demand inside a multiple-choice frame. It does not reproduce the frames themselves.
The Two Question Formats a Practice Session Uses
- Single-answer items: one option satisfies the requirement the prompt sets out. The rest are statements about the technology that hold up perfectly well until you apply that requirement to them
- Multiple-response items: each option that fits the condition must be selected and none that does not, and working out how many are wanted is part of the item rather than something you are told
- All-or-nothing marking: a partly correct selection on a multiple-response item scores what an empty one scores. There is no credit for the options you did pick correctly
Item Types NWExam Does Not Use
None of the following appears in a practice session here, on the demo or on Premium, and no amount of practice on this platform rehearses the mechanics of any of them.
- Drag-and-drop, ordering and matching tasks
- Fill-in-the-blank items and typed short answers
- A device or a command line you configure, and anything marked on the state you leave behind rather than on the option you chose
- Any format at all outside the two described above
How a Multiple-Choice Frame Carries Configuration Reasoning
Take a requirement on a congested egress link: one class of traffic has to be held to a contracted rate, and short bursts inside that contract have to be carried rather than discarded. On the actual exam you might be asked to build the policy and be marked on what you left behind. Here you are handed candidate policy fragments and asked which of them meets the requirement, and the wrong ones fail in ways an engineer would recognise: one polices where the requirement called for shaping, one shapes but applies the policy in the wrong direction, one names the right mechanism and hangs it on the wrong class. The judgement being tested is the same judgement. What is missing is the typing, and the typing is what a lab is for.
